17th Annual Numbers Bee will be held on April 27th at Dickinson high School, Wilmington, DE.
“Math is critical for success in many fields, and the United States is not doing a great job of teaching math,” said David Geary, Curators Professor of Psychological Sciences. “Once students fall behind, it’s almost impossible to get them back on track. We wanted to identify the beginning of school knowledge needed to learn math over the next five years. We found that understanding numbers and quantity is a necessary foundation for success as the student progresses to more complex math topics. In order to improve basic instruction, we have to know what to instruct. These are the factors that make a difference in the first-grade above and beyond intelligence and other abilities.”
Since its introduction in 2003, teachers have reported that the Numbers Bee game is challenging and stimulating for children at all levels. The Numbers Bee has been an asset in classrooms. Not only does it increase the student’s mental math skills, it is geared to many different levels of instruction.
The 2019 17th Annual Numbers Bee will be held on April 27, 2019 at Dickinson high School, Wilmington, Delaware. The Numbers Bee is a tournament for Delaware students in grades 3 – 8 and is conducted by National Bee Inc., a Delaware-based 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.
“The use of Numbers Bee program has improved students’ numerical, communication, computational, and problem-solving skills,” explains, Dr. Sakthi A. Vel, Creator of Numbers Bee.. “It has also been an effective teaching tool in attracting students who are discouraged by non-technological approaches to mathematics.”
